Cathaoirleach Cllr. Gerry McMonagle and Leas Cathaoirleach Cllr. Noel Jordan will be busy next weekend waving off Fergal Barr and his merry band of red heads as they undertake their 14 day 300 mile trek to Crosshaven in Co. Cork in aid of the Irish Cancer Society.

Cllr. McMonagle will meet with the group at Kees Hotel in Stranorlar at 10am on Sunday morning while Cllr. Noel Jordan will be in Donegal Town and Bundoran at 10am on Monday and Tuesday morning to wish them every success in their challenging trek.  Both councillors are encouraging anyone out and about at these times to drop by to lend their support to this very worthy cause.

Redhead300’ is a fundraising walk in aid of the Irish Cancer Society and will leave from the Guildhall in Derry~Londonderry on Saturday 5th August 2017 at 10am and finish just over 300 miles later, on Friday 18th August 2017, in the beautiful village of Crosshaven, County Cork, home of the one and only Irish Red Head Convention, hence the name, ‘Redhead300’.

Organiser Fergal Barr explains that their aim is to raise at least €5,000 for the Irish Cancer Society in support of the on-going efforts of www.redheadconvention.com which has raised over €30,000 for the charity since the festival kicked off in 2010.

Cathaoirleach Cllr. Gerry McMonagle said that he was only too delighted to support this very worthy cause.  “As soon as I heard about Fergal’s plans I was only too happy to support him.  I am particularly pleased that Fergal is embracing the ‘redhead’ theme – it adds a whole new and fun dimension and although I am not a true ‘redhead’ myself I am sure they will accept me as an honorary member of this prestigious club as they journey through Donegal next weekend.”

Leas Cathaoirleach Cllr. Noel Jordan agrees that this is a most worthy cause.  “I see from their Facebook page that they are well on their way to meeting their target of raising €5,000, this is great news and they haven’t even left Derry yet.  I am sure the people of Donegal will come out and show their support for this great cause and I am looking forward to giving them a great send off from Donegal Town and Bundoran next Monday and Tuesday morning”.
